We talked for hours that day, sneaking in conversations between work breaks, not wanting it to end. It was effortless, natural… and yet, it stirred something in me I didn’t expect.That night, he asked what I was doing, and he I told him I had plans with my family. He asked if he could come along. I laughed nervously and said, “This isn’t a date.” He teased me, “Then what is it?” and I said, “An outing.” We laughed about that all night—but deep down, my heart already knew this was more than an outing.When he came to pick me up, I was nervous—not because I didn’t want to see him, but because I did. I had been hurt before. I wasn’t ready to open my heart again. But when I saw him standing there, smiling at me, patient and kind, something inside me whispered, this is different.That night, we laughed, we danced, we shared stories. He met my family and fit right in as if he had always belonged there. I remember one small moment that told me everything I needed to know. I went to the restroom, and the door wouldn’t close properly. Without hesitation, he stood outside and held it shut so I could have privacy. That simple gesture spoke volumes—he cared, he protected, he respected me. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word.That night was the start of something beautiful. Something real.Now, 22 years later, I look at him and see not just the man who made me laugh that night, but the man who has been my rock through every storm. The one who held my hand when life felt heavy. The one who has loved me through my flaws, my fears, my insecurities—and never let go.He is my safe place. My comfort. My heart. It hasn’t always been easy—we’ve had our struggles, our scars—but we chose each other, every single time. And after all these years, it’s no longer just “I like this guy.” It’s I love this man with every piece of my soul.If you ask me what love is, it’s this. It’s us. It’s choosing each other, over and over, for the rest of our lives.
